Why Ficbook won't open
Ficbook (ficbook.net), the largest Russian-language fanfiction platform, has been fully blocked in Russia since July 2024 by Roskomnadzor. Millions of readers and authors lost access to the platform.
For the fanfiction community this is a serious hit: thousands of works, comments, discussions, author pages, the whole Russian-language fanfiction culture lived on Ficbook.
What exactly breaks
- ficbook.net won't open
- the fanfiction library won't load
- author profiles and comments are unreachable
- writing and publishing new works is impossible
How to bring Ficbook back with a VPN
Step 1. Install a client
Happ or INCY, or FlClashX, Karing, Rabbithole. Import the subscription, a couple of minutes.
Step 2. Connect a server
Turn the VPN on for all traffic and pick any foreign server. Russian IPs can't reach Ficbook, foreign ones work.
Step 3. Open ficbook.net
The library and your subscriptions load. Your account and stories stay.
Step 4. Set up a stable connection
If you read on a phone, turn on the always-on VPN mode so the site opens reliably instead of "every other time."
Which protocols fit
Reading text isn't demanding on speed, but the channel must be stable:
- VLESS + Reality, indistinguishable from HTTPS
- XHTTP, masks as an API request
- Hysteria2, over QUIC
All on our 46 servers across 12+ countries.
For authors
If you publish fanfiction, turn on the VPN before opening the editor. Works, drafts and stats stay on Ficbook's servers, the block doesn't touch them.

Is Ficbook fully blocked? Yes, since July 2024. The site won't open without a workaround.
Will my works disappear? No. Works and author data live on the platform's servers, the block doesn't delete them.
Can I read fanfiction without a VPN? Through mirrors sometimes, but unstable and with phishing risk. A VPN gives safe access to the original site.
