Why Twitter (X) won't open

Twitter, now X, has been blocked in Russia since March 2022 by Roskomnadzor. The network where news agencies, journalists, bloggers and politicians post is closed to Russian networks.

Feed, tweets, follows, direct messages, all sit behind the block. Without a workaround you can't reach X's servers.

What exactly breaks

  • x.com and twitter.com don't open
  • the app won't connect
  • feed and search don't load
  • messages don't get through

How to bring Twitter (X) back with a VPN

Step 1. Install a client

Happ or INCY, or FlClashX, Karing, Rabbithole. Import the subscription, a couple of minutes.

Step 2. Connect a server

Turn the VPN on for all traffic and pick a server in Europe or the US. X serves content from there.

Step 3. Open the app or site

Feed and messages load. Your account stays, nothing to migrate.

Step 4. If the feed looks empty

After access returns X sometimes shows an empty feed because of cache. Close the app, clear the cache, reopen.

Which protocols matter

X needs a stable encrypted channel:

  • VLESS + Reality, indistinguishable from normal HTTPS
  • XHTTP, masks as an API request
  • Hysteria2, over QUIC, reconnects fast

These run by default on our servers (46 across 12+ countries).

Safety

  • turn on two-factor authentication
  • never enter your password on "X via VPN" mirrors
  • use the official app

FAQ

Is Twitter fully blocked? Yes, since March 2022. It won't open without a VPN.

Are X and Twitter the same thing? Yes. The company renamed to X in 2023, but the service is the same and the block covers all of it.

Will my account survive? Yes. The block doesn't delete accounts, access returns with the VPN.

Does changing DNS help? For a domain and IP block, no. You need a full VPN tunnel.
